The month of September is shaping up to be a busy one for WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal, who is delivering talks to a wide range of audiences around Arizona. She notes that “There is much interest in water locally, statewide, and nationally, especially about what is going on in the Colorado River Basin.” These talks vary widely in scope, focus, and level of detail, but the participants are all actively seeking to learn more about water.

On September 3, 2025, Megdal spoke at the Tucson Rotary Club, providing an overview of the Tucson region’s water supply situation and posing this intriguing question: “Is using water to grow alfalfa similar to using water for AI?” On Saturday, September 6, she will give a similar presentation to a group at Catalina Methodist Church.

The U of A Scottsdale Center will be hosting Megdal on Thursday, September 18, for a CATalyst CHAT titled “Dry Times, Bold Moves: Innovation for Arizona’s Water Future.” The CATalyst CHAT lecture series brings together U of A alumni, business leaders, and community members to hear from faculty experts on research topics. Registration for this in-person event is still open!

Additionally, on Tuesday, September 30, Megdal will give a guest lecture to a U of A Honors College class. Titled “Our Human Footprint,” the course addresses the science behind our knowledge of human impact on the planet.

The calendar for October is already filling up with talks, too. These kinds of presentations, which effectively spread water awareness and knowledge, are central to the WRRC’s mission.
