International and domestic graduate students from the University of Arizona whose studies focus on identifying solutions to food, land, and/or water challenges in semi-arid lands are eligible to apply for the International Arid Lands Consortium (IALC) Scholars Award. This scholarship is a legacy of the organization that, for 30+ years, facilitated collaborative research to explore problems and solutions that improve the lives of those living in arid and semi-arid regions, with emphasis on the Middle East. Using a scientific peer-review process, the IALC provided $11.8 million to fund research and demonstration projects and various special initiatives in multiple countries. When IALC ceased operations in 2022, WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal helped establish the IALC Scholars Award using the organization’s remaining funds. The deadline to apply for the scholarship is June 30, 2025. Any inquiries should be directed to Nancy Ellis (nancyeellis@arizona.edu).
