Water Sector Collaborations, Knowledge Sharing Sessions Round Out WRRC Conference

On Day 2 of the WRRC 2025 Annual Conference, Shared Borders, Shared Waters: Working Together in Times of Scarcity, two afternoon panels will address cross-border collaborations and accessing data and knowledge within the water sector. Session 6: Water Sector Collaborations, moderated by Joaquin Marruffo, Border Programs Manager of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, will feature presentations from municipal, agricultural, and mining perspectives. Director of Tucson Water John Kmiec will speak about the Municipal Sector: Tucson’s Collaborations Across Borders. From the agricultural sector, Colorado River Indian Tribes Farms Manager Joshua Moore will highlight the CRIT Farms and Water Conservation, and Allison Moore, Executive Vice President of Fresh Produce Association of the Americas, will provide insight into Cross-border Agricultural Production, Trade, and Transportation. The final Session 6 panelist, Sandy Fabritz, Director of Water Strategy at Freeport McMoRan, will speak on the Mining Sector: Innovations in Mining Water Use.
Following the afternoon Networking Break, Session 7 will offer insights into Data and Knowledge Sharing. Moderator Holly Estrada Mechsner, Executive Director of Canada Arizona Business Council, will introduce the expert panel. Susan Montgomery, Attorney for Montgomery and Interpreter with PLC, will speak on Building Trust through Data and Collaborative Modeling. Rosario Sanchez, Senior Research Scientist with Texas Water Resources Institute, will follow with a presentation on the Binational Knowledge Sharing Platform. Professor Elia Tapia of Universidad de Sonora, the final panelist in Session 7, will speak on Translating Science to help listeners gain greater insight into water data.
