WRRC Director Delivers Colorado River Update for Pinal County
On May 12, 2026, WRRC Director Sharon B. Megdal presented a webinar for the University of Arizona’s Pinal County Cooperative Extension Agronomy Program, titled “Colorado River Updates: Shaping the Future of Arizona Agriculture.” The mission of the Cooperative Extension Agronomy Program is to serve the public by creating a link between Arizona residents and topic experts at the U of A. Toward this end, Megdal’s presentation provides essential, contextual information on the delivery of Colorado River water to Pinal County by the Central Arizona Project.
Megdal summarizes some of the biggest water challenges currently facing stakeholders and decision makers in Arizona. With decreasing average flow in the river over the past two decades, Central Arizona may soon experience cuts to the amount of Colorado River water it receives annually. Arizona, California, and Nevada recently offered a proposal to the US Bureau of Reclamation outlining a conservation plan for the next two years that protects water levels in Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Maintaining lake levels is essential to these states’ future water security. Megdal’s presentation explains the context and implications of the uncertain future of Central Arizona’s water supply, including how it pertains to agriculturalists in Pinal County.
